White Tea – A study from Case Western Reserve University found that compounds in white tea appear to protect skin from sun-induced stress, preventing premature aging.
Black Tea – Drinking 20 ounces of black tea daily causes the body to secrete five times as much interferon, a key element of your body’s infection protection arsenal. It can increase the rate at which your body is able to calm down and bring its cortisol levels back to normal. A 2007 study found that black tea drinkers are better able to manage stress than their herbal sipping counterparts.
Rooibos – Rooibos, known as a tisane, is caffeine-free as it does not contain any of the tea plant, Camellia sinensis. Also known as the “red bush” plant contains polyphenols and flavonoids that inhibit the formation of fat cells by as much as 22 percent. The flavonoid, aspalathin, reduces the stress hormones that trigger hunger and fat storage and are linked to hypertension, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, insulin resistance and type-2 diabetes
Green Tea – Sip a cup of green tea to help turbocharge the fat-blasting effects of exercise. It unlocks your fat cells. In a recent 12 week study, participants who combined a daily habit of 4-5 cups of green tea each day with a 25 minute workout lost an average of 2 more pounds than the non-tea drinking exercisers. If you have had a tough workout, green tea can help you recover faster after an intense workout. Brazilian scientists found that participants who consumed 3 cups of green tea every day for a week had fewer marker of the cell damage caused by resistance to exercise.
Oolong Tea – A study in the Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine found that participants who regularly sipped oolong tea lost 6 pounds over the course of the 6 week time period. Bottom line – oolong tea boosts metabolism!

Another approach is to COLD-BREW your loose leaf tea. Simply put ¾ to 1 cup of loose leaf tea in a one gallon pitcher, fill with filtered water and let it steep in the refrigerator for the correct time-frame given the type of tea you are utilizing. Once steeped, strain the tea into a clean pitcher, pour yourself a glass and enjoy!
