The origins of chai tea go back nearly 5,000 years to ancient India and Siam. Stories tell of a king who formulated a recipe in an attempt to create a beverage with healing properties.  After he had succeeded in perfecting his recipe, chai tea was used in the healing tradition of "ayurveda", an alternative form of medicine.  During the Vedic period in India, people consumed chai tea to naturally heal their bodies, along with practicing yoga and massage. The tea's popularity spread throughout South Asia and eventually into the Western world. 

Ingredients: Black tea, cinnamon, ginger root, cardamom, natural OC  and organic flavoring.

  • Amount: 1 -2 teaspoons / 8oz. serving
  • Water Temperature: 206 degrees F
  • Steep Time: 3 - 5 minutes

Serving Suggestion:  Add brown sugar and steamed milk

Caution: Do not oversteep.  Tea will become bitter.

Serenity Tea Sips Style Masala Chai

10 teaspoons Masala Chai

2 cups hot water

2 cups Fat-Free Half-n-Half 

4 - 6 teaspoons Natural Cane Turbinado Sugar (Sugar in the Raw)

Simmer 10 teaspoons of Masala Chai in 2 cups of hot water (206 degrees F) for 3 -5 minutes.  Add 2 cups Fat-Free Half-N-Half, 4 - 6 teaspoons of Natural Cane Turbinado Sugar (Sugar in the Raw).  Bring mixture to simmer.  Do not allow it to boil.  Strain and serve in your favorite teacups!

Just like the Chai in Turkey
I shared this tea with my brother who spent a great deal of time in Turkey while in the service. He loved the Chai there. This Chai is just like it, he said, and was so happy to have a cup of the best Chai since he left there. It's a beautiful color and smells wonderful! We didn't use the milk, only the brown sugar, since that is the way they drink it in Turkey and I didn't think it was lacking anything without the milk. Thank you for helping me bring a memory and a smile to my brother's face. Love the tea!!

It smells REALLY good. I made a pot for my husband and me and he took a cup not long after I made it and said it was okay. But I waited longer and it was very fragrant in the cup and very strong to the taste, but it didn't get bitter as it grew cold.
